It now emerges that Bupa are making significant changes to their relationship with osteopaths, which will not only reduce the fees that they are willing to pay to an unrealistic level but will also create large amounts of admin for Bupa-registered osteopaths and prevent their patients from receiving true osteopathic care as they plan to dictate prescriptive treatments that osteopaths must provide dependent on the condition being treated.
Anybody who visits an osteopath will know that the beauty of osteopathic treatment is that it is individually tailored to the patient - we treat people not conditions; after all, everybody is different and will have different treatment requirements depending on their specific circumstances! How does a large company who have only seen your details on paper know the better course of treatment for you than your osteopath who has spent time discussing your problem with you and giving you a thorough examination? They don't, obviously.
If you are a Bupa patient who is currently seeing an osteopath under your policy, or are considering it in the future, you should be aware of these upcoming changes and that your osteopath may feel they have no option to resign as a Bupa-registered practitioner (many osteopaths are resigning from Bupa next Friday). In effect, your Bupa policy will no longer afford you the same high quality osteopathic care that you have come to expect! If you are concerned about this, follow the link below to find out more about the changes and what you can do to fight these changes. The power is in your hands as Bupa's source of income - without your business they have no power to dictate what treatment you should receive!
